Guanyin Oracle Lot 38: Disaster strikes He Wenxiu
The Verse
The moon’s clear image emerges from its case,
Then clouds sweep in and dim it in a moment.
Keep calm and wait for the drifting clouds to part;
With a change of course, success may come in time.

The Story Behind the Lot
Disaster strikes He Wenxiu
He Wenxiu is a scholar in traditional folk dramas, gifted and handsome, who had only recently married when he set out with his wife to take up an appointment. Along the way, a local bully named Zhang Tang coveted his wife, framed He Wenxiu, and had him thrown into prison on death row. He suffered a grave injustice and nearly lost his life; the couple was separated, and his prospects were ruined. For a time, all was dark. Fortunately, he maintained his innocence and endured the false accusation. In the end, the case was cleared, the couple reunited, and the villain punished. The bright moon was hidden by clouds: its light was obscured for a time, not extinguished forever. In this lot, the story signifies being framed by petty adversaries and having one’s fortunes obstructed for a time. You may face disputes, false accusations, or even a plot against you, and the situation may be difficult. Yet if you remain upright and persevere, the clouds will eventually part. Do not lose your composure. If you can endure this low point, the injustice will be cleared and the light will return.
The Story Behind the Lot (alternate version)Another traditional version, for reference
Han Xin Enters Liu Bang’s Service
Han Xin first joined Xiang Yu and repeatedly offered sound strategies, but none were accepted. He was given only a minor post as a palace guard and grew frustrated at his lack of prospects, so he went over to Liu Bang. Even after joining the Han camp, he was not initially given an important role. Disappointed, he left, but Xiao He pursued him under the moonlight and brought him back. Xiao He strongly recommended his abilities, and Liu Bang then held a grand ceremony to appoint him general and entrust him with a major command. Han Xin went on to feint a repair of the plank road while secretly crossing at Chencang, win a desperate battle with his troops’ backs to the river, and set an ambush on all sides. He helped Liu Bang unify the realm and became a great military strategist. In this lot, the story signifies that great talent may go unrecognized for a time, but those who lie low and wait for the right moment may eventually be entrusted with important responsibilities. Though you may currently lack recognition and be going through a low period, do not lose heart or walk away. Remember that blue skies appear only after the clouds clear. Stay true to yourself and wait patiently for someone who recognizes your worth. One day, you may be appointed to high office and given the chance to fulfill your ambitions.
