The Story Behind the Lot
Jiang Wei recommended by letter
Jiang Wei originally served as a General of the Gentlemen of the Household in Tianshui Commandery under Cao Wei. Talented in both civil and military affairs, he nevertheless found little opportunity in Wei and instead became an object of suspicion. During Zhuge Liang's first Northern Expedition, his forces approached Tianshui. Suspected by the commandery administrator, Ma Zun, Jiang Wei found himself unable either to advance or retreat and surrendered to Shu Han. Zhuge Liang immediately developed a deep appreciation for his talent and personally wrote a letter recommending him to Jiang Wan. He praised Jiang Wei's loyalty to the House of Han and meticulous judgment, calling him an outstanding man of Liangzhou. Jiang Wei was consequently promoted and entrusted with important responsibilities, eventually rising to General Who Conquers the West. After Zhuge Liang died of illness, Jiang Wei carried on his ambition, launching nine campaigns into the Central Plains. He rose to General-in-Chief and became the military mainstay of Shu Han in its later years. This oracle draws on Jiang Wei's rise from obscurity in the army to distinction through the recommendation of someone who understood his worth. Although circumstances may initially be difficult and some setbacks may occur along the way, the sustained support of an influential person who recognizes your talent can lift you out of obscurity and bring rapid advancement. It is a sign of the highest fortune for those seeking recognition and progress.
The Story Behind the Lot (alternate version)Another traditional version, for reference
Liu Bei Marries into the Ruling Family of Eastern Wu
After Liu Bei took Jingzhou, his power gradually increased. Unable to secure the return of Nan Commandery, Sun Quan adopted Zhou Yu's plan: he pretended to offer his younger sister in marriage to Liu Bei, luring him across the river for the wedding while actually intending to hold him hostage in exchange for the commandery. Those on the Shu side knew that the proposal concealed a trap, but Zhuge Liang strongly urged Liu Bei to accept the marriage. He also sent Zhao Yun as an escort and gave him three silk pouches containing instructions: open the first upon arriving in Nanxu, the second at the end of the year, and the third when danger left them no way out. The pouches contained ingenious and unpredictable strategies that would ensure their lord's safe return home. In the tenth month of the fourteenth year of the Jian'an era, Liu Bei traveled to Nanxu with Zhao Yun to be married. As soon as they arrived, Zhao Yun opened the first pouch according to the instructions. What had been intended as a treacherous feast concealing murderous designs ultimately became a happy marriage. This oracle matches that pattern: although the matter you pursue may initially involve hurried activity and complications, these are only temporary. With the guidance and assistance of influential helpers, it will ultimately turn out well. It is therefore a sign of the highest fortune, encouraging you to move forward with confidence.
