Also known as: 重乾 · Hexagram 1 · ䷀ · The Creative Hexagram
Qian Wei Tian is the opening hexagram of the sixty-four, formed by doubling the Heaven trigram (☰ over ☰). Its six solid lines make it the most yang figure in the entire Book of Changes. The classic judgement reads "元亨利貞" — sublime success that furthers through steadfast correctness.
The Great Image commentary states "天行健,君子以自強不息" ("Heaven moves with tireless strength; the noble person never ceases to strengthen the self"). In divination this hexagram points to initiative, leadership, and creative beginnings — a time of great potential that rewards perseverance and integrity rather than haste.
