Rooster Chinese Zodiac 2027 (Ding-Wei Year of the Goat)

Does not offend Tai SuiAnnual star: Sang Men (Mourning Door)

In 2027, the Ding-Wei year, there is no clash, punishment, harm or break between the Rooster and Tai Sui (太歲, the deity presiding over the year), so the Rooster is not among the signs that offend Tai Sui. Its annual star is Sang Men. The star’s name makes many people uneasy, but in traditional horoscopes it is mainly a reminder to look after family and be mindful at social occasions, not a pronouncement about any particular event. Its origins and reading are explained below.

Rooster Birth Years and Nominal Age in 2027

Birth yearStem-BranchNominal age in 2027
2017丁酉11
2005乙酉23
1993癸酉35
1981辛酉47
1969己酉59
1957丁酉71
1945乙酉83
1933癸酉95

Years in the table change at Lichun (立春, the Beginning of Spring, around 4 February), so each one covers births from that year’s Lichun up to the next year’s Lichun; folk custom changes the sign at Lunar New Year instead. If you were born in January or early February, check your exact date against the 2 dividing dates: for example, someone born in early January 1993 is still a Monkey whether you count by Lichun or by Lunar New Year. Nominal age is 2027 minus the year in the table, plus 1.

You (酉) and Wei: The Rooster Does Not Offend Tai Sui

The You branch clashes with Mao, punishes itself (the You–You self-punishment), harms Xu and breaks with Zi; none of these involves Wei, so the Rooster does not offend Tai Sui in 2027, and all schools agree. Traditionally, a year without offending Tai Sui carries no extra “Tai Sui pressure”, and everyday plans can go ahead as usual.

Annual Star: Sang Men (Mourning Door)

Counting the 12 annual stars from Wei, the third, Sang Men, falls on You. Old readings link Sang Men with mourning clothes, visiting the sick and funerals, so tradition advises spending less time at funerals and sickbeds this year and looking after the health of elderly relatives. This does not mean something will happen in your family: the twelve stars rotate by birth-year branch, so each comes round once every twelve years, and there are countless Roosters, each with a completely different family situation. In 2026 the Rooster sat with the auspicious Tai Yin; this year it switches to Sang Men, which the old reading takes as a reminder to give more thought to family.

Area by Area: Work, Money, Relationships, Health

Going by the traditional meaning of Sang Men, the areas of life read roughly like this. At work, this star has no particular reading, so carry on at your own pace. With money, you might set aside a reserve for family care and medical costs. Love and family life are the focus of the year: spend more time together and talk more. For health, watch for low moods and sleep problems, and seek professional help when needed. How much each area matters varies from person to person, and there is no need to treat the star’s name as an omen.

How to Plan the Year

Sang Men’s reminder can be very down-to-earth in daily life: go home to see your parents and elders more often, go with them for a health check, and sort out home safety (non-slip floors, lighting, handrails); while you are at it, update the family’s insurance, documents and emergency contacts. For yourself, talk to someone when you feel low, keep regular hours and get moderate exercise. When a relative or friend has a funeral or is in hospital, visit as courtesy and custom require; if traditional observances matter to you, you can follow some simple local customs.

A Heavy Name, Meant as a Reminder

Most of the 12 annual stars keep the names of old spirit-stars (shensha, 神煞), and Sang Men, Diao Ke, Bai Hu and Bing Fu all sound heavy. In traditional horoscopes, though, their role is closer to a hint about “what to pay more attention to this year” than a pronouncement about any event. The various remedy items commonly recommended are mostly folk custom or sellers’ promotions, and this site does not judge their effect; the Rooster does not offend Tai Sui in 2027 and is generally not on temples’ an tai sui lists.

All Roosters, but Not the Same 2027

A Ji-You Rooster born in 1969, a Xin-You Rooster born in 1981, a Gui-You Rooster born in 1993 and a Yi-You Rooster born in 2005 have different heavenly stems and are at completely different stages of life: some are caring for ageing parents, some have just started a family, some are still at school. A zodiac reading can only give a broad reminder; only by casting a Ziwei Doushu chart from your year, month, day and hour of birth and seeing how the 2027 annual chart and your decade cycle overlap can you know whether this year’s real focus is family, work or yourself.

Same Sign, Different Year

Zodiac pages group people by birth year and describe reminders shared by a whole group. Your own 2027 depends on the Ziwei Doushu chart cast from your year, month, day and hour of birth: which of your palaces the annual Life Palace falls in, which palaces receive the Ding year’s Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji transformations, and how far your current decade cycle (the ten-year period you are in) has run. The 2027 Annual Destiny Book lays these layers over one another and writes a book about your year alone. Every account can claim one full edition for free, and it is ready in about a minute.

FAQ

Does the Rooster offend Tai Sui in 2027?

No. There is no clash, punishment, harm or break between You and Wei, and all schools agree. The annual star is Sang Men, which tradition says calls for more care for elderly relatives and attention at social occasions.

How old are Rooster people in 2027?

By nominal age: 59 for those born in 1969, 47 for 1981, 35 for 1993 and 23 for 2005. The full list of birth years is in the table above.

Can I attend weddings or celebrations in a Sang Men year?

Yes. Sang Men’s traditional taboo concerns funerals and sickbeds, not happy occasions; folk belief actually holds that sharing in others’ joy is a good thing.

Is 2027 the same for every Rooster?

No. The zodiac only groups people by birth year, and the people in each group have different charts. To see your own priorities for the year, you can claim a 2027 Annual Destiny Book: it casts your chart from your year, month, day and hour of birth and reads the natal, decade and annual charts together, with one free copy per account.

My parents are getting older. Should we do anything special in a Sang Men year?

No special ritual is needed. In real life, Sang Men’s traditional reminder simply means more care and more time together: visit regularly, go with them to the doctor, and keep an eye on home safety and their medication. If an elder has health problems, follow the doctor’s advice.
