Ox Chinese Zodiac 2027 (Ding-Wei Year of the Goat)
In 2027, the Ding-Wei year, the Ox stands directly opposite Tai Sui (太歲, the deity presiding over the year) across the circle of branches: Chou and Wei clash, the most widely circulated readings add a layer of “Wei punishes Chou”, and among the 12 annual stars the Ox also gets Sui Po (Da Hao, Major Loss), the position directly opposite Tai Sui. Clashing with Tai Sui and Sui Po actually describe the same position, which is why tradition lists the Ox as one of the signs most in need of care in 2027. Below, we first explain where these ideas come from, then how to plan the year.

Years in the table change at Lichun (立春, the Beginning of Spring, around 4 February), so each one covers births from that year’s Lichun up to the next year’s Lichun; folk custom changes the sign at Lunar New Year instead. The 2 methods can disagree for January and February births: in 1985, for example, Lichun fell on 4 February and Lunar New Year on 20 February, so someone born on 10 February is an Ox by the metaphysical count but still a Rat by folk custom. Nominal age is 2027 minus the year in the table, plus 1.
The Chou–Wei Clash: A Direct Clash with Tai Sui
Arrange the twelve earthly branches in a circle and Chou sits in the northeast and Wei in the southwest, exactly six places apart and facing each other across the circle; this is the Chou–Wei clash. In Taiwan, clashing with Tai Sui is often called zheng chong (正沖), the direct clash, and tradition often treats it as the heaviest form of offending Tai Sui. Old readings associate the clash with movement: home, work and relationships are more likely to change, sometimes because of outside events, sometimes because you seek the change yourself. Hence the folk view that a year of clashing with Tai Sui is one “for moving, not for staying still”: people who were already planning to move house, change jobs or start a family may do better to go ahead this year. This too is only a folk view; big decisions should rest on your actual circumstances.
Does the Ox Also Punish Tai Sui? Schools Disagree
The three branches Chou, Wei and Xu together form a three-way punishment, which runs: Chou punishes Xu, Xu punishes Wei, Wei punishes Chou. In 2027 Tai Sui is at Wei, and Wei punishes Chou, so the most widely circulated 2027 zodiac guides describe the Ox as “clashing with and punishing Tai Sui”; quite a few schools, however, assign the punishment to the Dog alone (Xu punishes Wei) and count only the clash for the Ox. Both versions have a basis; the difference is whether you count only the sign that punishes Tai Sui (Xu punishes Wei) or also the sign that Tai Sui punishes (Wei punishes Chou). In practical terms, tradition mostly links punishment with disputes, conflict and friction, and the reminder points the same way as the clash: double-check things and act a little less on impulse.
Annual Star: Sui Po (Da Hao)
Sui Po, the Year Breaker, is the position directly opposite Tai Sui, so whichever sign clashes with Tai Sui in a given year always has Sui Po as its annual star; the two are two names for the same thing. Sui Po is also called Da Hao, Major Loss, and tradition links it with large expenses and upheaval — perhaps buying property, moving, or family members needing money, or perhaps just spending you had not planned on. In 2026, the Bing-Wu year, the Ox was in a Chou–Wu harm with Tai Sui, yet its annual star was the auspicious Long De; in 2027 it switches to clashing with Tai Sui under Da Hao, which by the old reading means moving from a year with help at hand to one in which you have to put in more effort yourself.
Area by Area: Work, Money, Relationships, Health
Going by the traditional meanings of the clash and Sui Po, the areas of life read roughly like this. At work there are more chances of change — a transfer, a new employer, or a big shift in what you do — and updating your CV and building skills ahead of time helps more than worrying. With money, the reminder is about large expenses, so a budget and an emergency fund are the priorities. In love and family life, a clash easily brings disagreement, so talk important matters through. For health, watch out for fatigue from rushing around, and for road safety. Whether any of this comes true, and in which area, varies from person to person.
How to Plan the Year
Following the “major loss” reminder, the most practical preparation is to leave room for large expenses: list the big outgoings you already know about this year, set aside an emergency fund, and think twice about borrowing, lending or acting as a guarantor, which stretch risk out over time. For decisions such as signing contracts, buying or selling property or entering a partnership, give yourself extra time to compare options and get advice, and consult professionals where needed. If a change of job or home was already in your plans, prepare step by step as usual; there is no need to force it or put it off because of your sign. If no change is planned, there is no need to create one just to “answer the clash”. Take care on the road and when exercising, and see a doctor if something feels wrong.
An Tai Sui and Other Folk Customs
Signs that clash with Tai Sui are a priority on temples’ an tai sui lists everywhere. In Taiwan, people usually register their name and birth details at a temple and have a Tai Sui lamp lit between Lunar New Year and the Lantern Festival (20 February 2027, 2 weeks after Lunar New Year); in Hong Kong, they mostly go to a temple after Lichun for bai tai sui; and some people “hide from spring” (duo chun), staying at home for an hour or two when Lichun begins on 4 February. These are long-standing customs; whether to take part depends on personal belief, and this site does not judge their effect.
All Oxen, but Not the Same 2027
In Bazi, the year branch is just one of eight characters. A Gui-Chou Ox born in 1973 and a Yi-Chou Ox born in 1985 already differ in the year stem, and their month, day and hour of birth make different combinations again. In Ziwei Doushu, everyone’s annual Life Palace in 2027 is in the Wei palace, but which of your palaces sits at Wei, which stars it holds and where the Ding year’s Great Gate Hua Ji lands can only be known from your own chart. Clashing with Tai Sui is a reminder for a whole group of people; which area of life it applies to for you is something a personal Annual Destiny Book explains more clearly.
Same Sign, Different Year
Zodiac pages group people by birth year and describe reminders shared by a whole group. Your own 2027 depends on the Ziwei Doushu chart cast from your year, month, day and hour of birth: which of your palaces the annual Life Palace falls in, which palaces receive the Ding year’s Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji transformations, and how far your current decade cycle (the ten-year period you are in) has run. The 2027 Annual Destiny Book lays these layers over one another and writes a book about your year alone. Every account can claim one full edition for free, and it is ready in about a minute.

Does the Ox clash with Tai Sui or punish Tai Sui in 2027?
The clash is certain (the Chou–Wei clash). Punishment depends on the school: the most widely circulated 2027 readings also count the Ox under punishment (Wei punishes Chou), so it is often written as “clash plus punishment”; quite a few schools assign punishment to the Dog alone. Whichever way you count, the Ox is on the list of signs that offend Tai Sui in 2027.
How old are Ox people in 2027?
By nominal age: 55 for those born in 1973, 43 for 1985, 31 for 1997 and 19 for 2009. The full list of birth years is in the table above.
Can I marry, move house or change jobs in a year when I clash with Tai Sui?
Folk opinion is split. One view holds that a clash year calls for staying put and postponing big events; the other says the year is “for moving, not for staying still”, and that holding a wedding or moving into a new home is actually a good way to go with it. That both views exist shows the matter was never settled. Marriage, moving house and changing jobs should rest on both parties’ wishes, your finances and the real opportunities in front of you; if you want to pick a date, you can consult the Chinese almanac (huangli) for date selection.
Is 2027 the same for every Ox?
No. The zodiac looks only at the birth year and puts people born in the same year into one group; a personal annual reading puts your year, month, day and hour of birth into a chart and then looks at how the 2027 annual chart and your decade cycle overlap.
