Dog Chinese Zodiac 2027 (Ding-Wei Year of the Goat)

Punishes Tai Sui · Breaks with Tai SuiAnnual star: Tai Yin (auspicious)

In 2027 the Dog holds two relations with Tai Sui (太歲, the deity presiding over the year) at once: Xu and Wei break with each other, and both belong to the Chou–Wei–Xu three-way punishment, so nearly every school lists the Dog as punishing Tai Sui. Interestingly, the annual star that lands on the Dog is the auspicious Tai Yin. Offending Tai Sui and meeting an auspicious star at the same time looks contradictory, but they come from two separate methods, each telling its own story; each is explained below.

Dog Birth Years and Nominal Age in 2027

Birth yearStem-BranchNominal age in 2027
2018戊戌10
2006丙戌22
1994甲戌34
1982壬戌46
1970庚戌58
1958戊戌70
1946丙戌82
1934甲戌94

Years in the table change at Lichun (立春, the Beginning of Spring, around 4 February), so each one covers births from that year’s Lichun up to the next year’s Lichun; folk custom changes the sign at Lunar New Year instead. If you were born in January or early February, check your exact date against the 2 dividing dates: for example, someone born in January 1994 is still a Rooster whether you count by Lichun or by Lunar New Year. Nominal age is 2027 minus the year in the table, plus 1.

Xu Punishes Wei: Punishing Tai Sui

The three branches Chou, Wei and Xu together form the three-way punishment, which runs: Chou punishes Xu, Xu punishes Wei, Wei punishes Chou. The Dog’s birth-year branch, Xu, punishes Wei, where Tai Sui sits, so in nearly every version for 2027 the Dog is listed as punishing Tai Sui; the disagreement is over whether the Ox should be counted too. Tradition mostly links punishment with disputes, conflict, friction and one’s own impatience, and the Chou–Wei–Xu punishment is also called “the punishment of relying on strength” (恃勢之刑): as the name suggests, the reminder is that the surer you feel of being right and having backing, the more room you should leave in what you say.

The Xu–Wei Break: Breaking with Tai Sui

The six breaks are another set of relations between branches, and Xu and Wei form one of the pairs, so the Dog also breaks with Tai Sui. The traditional reading of a break is “disruption”: plans change midway, cracks appear in a partnership, things already agreed have to be renegotiated. Among the five relations — zhi, chong, xing, hai and po — the break is generally considered one of the lighter ones, but the Dog has both punishment and break in 2027, so it too appears on Taiwanese temples’ an tai sui lists, usually filed under pian chong (indirect clash).

Annual Star: Tai Yin (Moon)

Counting the 12 annual stars from Wei, the fourth, Tai Yin, falls on Xu; it is one of the four auspicious stars. Traditionally Tai Yin is linked with help from women, harmony at home and attentive support; old readings say it helps women more, while men are reminded to keep the proper bounds in romance and relationships. In 2026 the Dog was in the Yin–Wu–Xu Three Harmonies with Tai Sui, yet its annual star was Wu Gui (Guan Fu); this year it is the other way round, offending Tai Sui but meeting Tai Yin. Read together, the two amount roughly to “offending Tai Sui, but with an auspicious star’s support”: by tradition, change and friction call for care, and help from the people around you is also easier to come by.

Area by Area: Work, Money, Relationships, Health

Going by the traditional meanings of punishment, break and Tai Yin, the areas of life read roughly like this. At work, disputes and changing plans are the main reminders, so keep a paper trail of documents and communication. With money, make the terms of partnerships and loans clear to avoid losses if someone changes their mind. In love and family life, Tai Yin favours harmony at home and family support is your mainstay this year, while men are reminded to keep proper bounds in romance. For health, impatience and fatigue are the focus: keep regular hours and stay safe. How much each area matters varies from person to person.

How to Plan the Year

The reminders of punishment and break centre on “disputes” and “changes of mind”: before signing contracts, entering partnerships or lending and borrowing, write the terms down clearly, and follow up important verbal agreements in writing; when you disagree with someone, let things cool first and avoid deciding in the heat of the moment. Make plans, but prepare a backup so you are not thrown into disarray if they are disrupted. Tai Yin’s meaning is support from those around you, so the views of family, old friends and female elders or colleagues are worth listening to. Physically, keep regular hours, take care when driving or exercising, and see a doctor if something feels wrong.

Settling Tai Sui and Other Folk Customs

In Taiwan, signs that punish or break with Tai Sui are often included together on temples’ an tai sui lists, with registration usually between Lunar New Year and the Lantern Festival (20 February 2027, 2 weeks after Lunar New Year); some temples also hand out Tai Sui talismans or tablets of the year’s Tai Sui general for worshippers to enshrine at home. In Hong Kong, people mostly go to a temple after Lichun for bai tai sui, then return for huan tai sui before the end of the year. These are long-standing folk customs; whether to take part depends on personal belief, and this site does not judge their effect.

All Dogs, but Not the Same 2027

A Geng-Xu Dog born in 1970, a Ren-Xu Dog born in 1982, a Jia-Xu Dog born in 1994 and a Bing-Xu Dog born in 2006 all punish and break with Tai Sui, yet their charts are completely different. In Bazi there are the month, day and hour pillars besides the year pillar; in Ziwei Doushu, the annual Life Palace in 2027 is in the Wei palace, and which palace of your chart receives the Ding year’s Great Gate Hua Ji often says more than the zodiac sign about where this year’s disputes are likely to arise.

Same Sign, Different Year

Zodiac pages group people by birth year and describe reminders shared by a whole group. Your own 2027 depends on the Ziwei Doushu chart cast from your year, month, day and hour of birth: which of your palaces the annual Life Palace falls in, which palaces receive the Ding year’s Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji transformations, and how far your current decade cycle (the ten-year period you are in) has run. The 2027 Annual Destiny Book lays these layers over one another and writes a book about your year alone. Every account can claim one full edition for free, and it is ready in about a minute.

FAQ

Does the Dog punish Tai Sui or break with Tai Sui in 2027?

Both. Xu and Wei break with each other, which is breaking with Tai Sui; in the Chou–Wei–Xu three-way punishment, Xu punishes Wei, which is punishing Tai Sui. Schools broadly agree on how to classify the Dog; the disagreement is over whether the Ox also punishes Tai Sui.

How old are Dog people in 2027?

By nominal age: 58 for those born in 1970, 46 for 1982, 34 for 1994 and 22 for 2006. The full list of birth years is in the table above.

I offend Tai Sui but also meet the auspicious Tai Yin. Is that good or bad?

The two come from different methods: offending Tai Sui looks at how your birth-year branch relates to Tai Sui, while the 12 annual stars look at which position your birth-year branch reaches that year. Tradition reads them together — a reminder about disputes and changes of mind, and a hint that people around you can help. Whether the year is good or bad cannot be judged from these two items alone; your personal chart and actual circumstances are what count.

Can I buy a home or change jobs in a year when I offend Tai Sui?

Yes. No rule says you cannot do big things in a year when you offend Tai Sui. By folk custom some people choose to wait, while others hold that the year is “for moving, not for staying still”. For buying a home or changing jobs, go by your finances, market conditions and personal plans, and consult professionals on major financial decisions.
