Dragon Chinese Zodiac 2027 (Ding-Wei Year of the Goat)
“Does the Dragon offend Tai Sui in 2027?” is one of the questions asked most often this year. By the mainstream five relations — zhi, chong, xing, hai and po — Chen and Wei are not connected by any of them, so the Dragon does not offend Tai Sui (太歲, the deity presiding over the year); its annual star is Fu De, one of the four auspicious stars. The question arises because some places use a separate way of counting pian chong (indirect clash), and some articles have got the relations wrong. Each point is explained below.
Dragon Birth Years and Nominal Age in 2027
| Birth year | Stem-Branch | Nominal age in 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 甲辰 | 4 |
| 2012 | 壬辰 | 16 |
| 2000 | 庚辰 | 28 |
| 1988 | 戊辰 | 40 |
| 1976 | 丙辰 | 52 |
| 1964 | 甲辰 | 64 |
| 1952 | 壬辰 | 76 |
| 1940 | 庚辰 | 88 |
| 1928 | 戊辰 | 100 |
Years in the table change at Lichun (立春, the Beginning of Spring, around 4 February), so each one covers births from that year’s Lichun up to the next year’s Lichun; folk custom changes the sign at Lunar New Year instead. If you were born in January or early February, check your exact date against the 2 dividing dates: for example, someone born in January 1988 is still a Rabbit whether you count by Lichun or by Lunar New Year. Nominal age is 2027 minus the year in the table, plus 1.
Chen (辰) and Wei: No Offence to Tai Sui by the Mainstream Count
The Chen branch clashes with Xu; its punishment is the self-punishment of Chen with Chen; it harms Mao (the Mao–Chen harm); and it breaks with Chou (the Chen–Chou break). None of these involves Wei, so by the five relations the Dragon does not offend Tai Sui in 2027. Now and then articles online describe the Dragon as “breaking” Tai Sui, but in the traditional six break pairs the branch that breaks with Wei is Xu (the Dog), not Chen; such claims can be treated as a slip of the pen.
Why “Indirect Clash” Brings Up the Dragon
In Taiwan, folk usage often divides offending Tai Sui into zheng chong (direct clash) and pian chong (indirect clash). The more common usage treats the clash as zheng chong and groups punishment, harm and break together as pian chong; counted that way, the Dragon is still not included. Another method takes the two signs three places before and after Tai Sui on the circle of branches as pian chong; for 2027 that lands on Chen (Dragon) and Xu (Dog), which brings the Dragon in. Practice varies on this method; if it matters to you, you can follow what the temple you usually visit says when deciding whether to settle Tai Sui (an tai sui).
Annual Star: Fu De (Fortune Virtue)
Counting the 12 annual stars from Wei, the one that reaches Chen is Fu De, one of the four auspicious stars. Traditionally Fu De is linked with blessings, celebrations and an easier frame of mind, and is often read as a year of better relationships and smoother going. In 2026 the Dragon sat with Tian Gou (Diao Ke); moving to Fu De in 2027 is, by the old reading, a shift from a year that called for care to a calmer one. Fu De describes a favourable current; whether you can make use of it depends on your actual circumstances and your chart.
Area by Area: Work, Money, Relationships, Health
Going by the traditional meaning of Fu De, the areas of life read roughly like this. At work, relationships are more harmonious, which suits building your reputation and gathering resources. With money, Fu De is about “blessings” and “happy events”, not guaranteed returns, so living within your means remains the rule. In love and family life, tradition sees this as a year when happy events go more smoothly, a good time to take a relationship a step further. For health, a more relaxed mind is a good thing, but keep up your routine and your check-ups. How much each area matters varies from person to person.
How to Plan the Year
In the traditional reading, a Fu De year suits things that “add to your blessings”: holding a wedding or celebration, gathering family and friends, settling your home, or learning something you have long wanted to learn all go with the meaning of this star. At work, you can put your energy into relationships and building a reputation rather than staking everything on one or two risky moves. Keep living within your means — an auspicious star is no reason to invest — and keep looking after your health with regular hours and routine check-ups.
All Dragons, but Not the Same 2027
A Bing-Chen Dragon born in 1976, a Wu-Chen Dragon born in 1988 and a Geng-Chen Dragon born in 2000 pair the same branch with different heavenly stems, so in Bazi they already have different year pillars; add the month, day and hour, and hardly any two people share the same combination. In Ziwei Doushu, everyone’s annual Life Palace in 2027 is in the Wei palace, but which palace Wei is in each person’s chart decides where the weight of the year falls. The zodiac sign can give a group’s general direction; your own priorities depend on your own annual chart.
Same Sign, Different Year
Zodiac pages group people by birth year and describe reminders shared by a whole group. Your own 2027 depends on the Ziwei Doushu chart cast from your year, month, day and hour of birth: which of your palaces the annual Life Palace falls in, which palaces receive the Ding year’s Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji transformations, and how far your current decade cycle (the ten-year period you are in) has run. The 2027 Annual Destiny Book lays these layers over one another and writes a book about your year alone. Every account can claim one full edition for free, and it is ready in about a minute.

Does the Dragon offend Tai Sui in 2027?
By the mainstream five relations — zhi, chong, xing, hai and po — the Dragon does not offend Tai Sui. Some Taiwanese practice counts as pian chong (indirect clash) the signs three places before and after Tai Sui, which includes the Dragon, and some articles wrongly list the Dragon as breaking with Tai Sui (in the six break pairs, the branch that breaks with Wei is Xu). If you usually take part in an tai sui at a temple, you can go by that temple’s list.
How old are Dragon people in 2027?
By nominal age: 64 for those born in 1964, 52 for 1976, 40 for 1988 and 28 for 2000. The full list of birth years is in the table above.
Is a Fu De year a good time to marry or buy a home?
Tradition sees a Fu De year as one in which happy events go more smoothly, but for big decisions such as marriage or buying a home, what matters most is both parties’ wishes, your finances and the actual timing. A zodiac reading is only something to refer to, not a reason for the decision.
If I am a Dragon, what should I look at to see my own priorities for 2027?
Zodiac pages group people only by birth year. To see your own priorities, you need a Ziwei Doushu chart cast from your year, month, day and hour of birth, and a look at how the 2027 annual chart and your current decade cycle overlap. The 2027 Annual Destiny Book is written this way, and every account can claim one for free.
