Rat Chinese Zodiac 2027 (Ding-Wei Year of the Goat)
Rat people have just come through a clash with Tai Sui (太歲, the deity presiding over the year) in 2026, the Bing-Wu year (the Zi–Wu clash), and in 2027, the Ding-Wei year, they form a Zi–Wei harm with Tai Sui, with Si Fu (Xiao Hao, Minor Loss) as their annual star. By the traditional account harm is lighter than clash, and what calls for attention this year is mostly small frictions with other people and losses that come in bits and pieces. Each is explained below.

Years in the table change at Lichun (立春, the Beginning of Spring, around 4 February), so each one covers births from that year’s Lichun up to the next year’s Lichun; folk custom changes the sign at Lunar New Year instead. If you were born in January or early February, check your exact date against the 2 dividing dates: for example, someone born in early January 1996 is still a Pig whether you count by Lichun or by Lunar New Year. Nominal age is 2027 minus the year in the table, plus 1.
The Zi–Wei Harm: How the Rat Relates to Tai Sui in 2027
Among the twelve earthly branches, Zi and Chou form one of the six harmony pairs. Wei clashes with Chou, which amounts to scattering Zi’s “partner”, so tradition calls this the Zi–Wei harm. Harming Tai Sui is not the head-on collision that a clash is; old readings mostly understand it as hidden obstruction: good intentions are misread, someone in a partnership won’t cooperate, things that should get done keep being delayed. Harm is generally considered lighter than clash or punishment, and by that ranking the Rat is one of the lighter cases among the four signs that offend Tai Sui in 2027. And precisely because it is low-key, saying things clearly and putting arrangements in writing is more practical than worrying about luck.
Annual Star: Si Fu (Xiao Hao)
The 12 annual stars are counted from Wei, where Tai Sui sits, and the one that lands on Zi is Si Fu (Death Talisman), also called Xiao Hao (Minor Loss). Traditionally Si Fu is linked with minor ailments and low spirits, and Xiao Hao with scattered expenses and lost items. Taken together, the emphasis is on “minor”: not great ups and downs, but wear that comes a little at a time. In 2026 the Rat sat with Sui Po (Da Hao, Major Loss); this year it moves to Xiao Hao, which the traditional reading describes as going from major loss to minor loss. These readings come from folk almanac and zodiac horoscope conventions and are worked out from the birth-year branch alone; people born in the same year will not all meet the same events.
Area by Area: Work, Money, Relationships, Health
Going by the traditional meanings of Si Fu, Xiao Hao and harming Tai Sui, the areas of life read roughly like this. At work, delayed processes and miscommunication are more likely, so it helps to set out clearly who does what and by when. With money, the reminder is about scattered spending and small losses, not big swings. In love and dealings with people, “harm” is about misunderstanding, and saying what you mean beats second-guessing. For health, tradition links this star with minor illness and mood, so keep regular hours and see a doctor when you need to. These are general reminders for a whole group of people; how much each area matters varies from person to person.
How to Plan the Year
Following the “minor loss” reminder, the most useful step is to keep small everyday expenses in check: review subscriptions, memberships, takeaway orders and other easy-to-miss spending every so often; keep documents, keys and devices in one fixed place, and take a second look before you leave the house. With people, the idea of harm is a reminder about misunderstanding: for anything involving money or the division of work, make things clear at the start, and follow up verbal agreements with a written note. As for health, tradition connects Si Fu with minor illness and mood; the safest approach is regular hours and routine check-ups, seeing a doctor if something feels wrong, and not frightening yourself over an annual star.
Should You Settle Tai Sui (An Tai Sui)?
In Taiwan and Hong Kong, temples often include the signs that harm Tai Sui on their lists for an tai sui and bai tai sui; registration usually takes place between Lunar New Year and the Lantern Festival (20 February 2027, 2 weeks after Lunar New Year). Some people simply make offerings at home for peace of mind. This is a long-standing folk custom; whether to take part depends on personal belief, and this site does not judge its effect. If you decide to go, choose a temple you trust and read its registration procedure and fee information carefully.
All Rats, but Not the Same 2027
The zodiac sign represents only the earthly branch of the birth year, which in Bazi is one of eight characters. A Jia-Zi Rat born in 1984 and a Bing-Zi Rat born in 1996 have different heavenly stems, let alone different months, days and hours of birth. In Ziwei Doushu, everyone’s annual Life Palace in 2027 is in the Wei palace, but which of your palaces sits at Wei, and which stars it holds, varies a great deal from chart to chart. To know which area of your life the reminders of harm and Si Fu point to, you need to look at your personal annual chart.
Same Sign, Different Year
Zodiac pages group people by birth year and describe reminders shared by a whole group. Your own 2027 depends on the Ziwei Doushu chart cast from your year, month, day and hour of birth: which of your palaces the annual Life Palace falls in, which palaces receive the Ding year’s Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji transformations, and how far your current decade cycle (the ten-year period you are in) has run. The 2027 Annual Destiny Book lays these layers over one another and writes a book about your year alone. Every account can claim one full edition for free, and it is ready in about a minute.

Does the Rat offend Tai Sui in 2027?
By the mainstream reading, yes: the Rat harms Tai Sui (the Zi–Wei harm), and its annual star is Si Fu (Xiao Hao). Among the five relations — zhi, chong, xing, hai and po — harm is generally considered one of the lighter ones; some temples in Taiwan file it under pian chong (indirect clash), and Rat people can likewise register for an tai sui.
How old are Rat people in 2027?
By nominal age, counted as 2027 minus your birth year plus one: 44 for those born in 1984, 32 for 1996 and 20 for 2008. The full list of birth years is in the table above. Age as counted in the West is one or two years less.
I clashed with Tai Sui last year and harm it this year. Does that mean two bad years in a row?
In terms of branches, 2026 (Bing-Wu) brought the Zi–Wu clash and 2027 (Ding-Wei) brings the Zi–Wei harm, so Rat people really are tied up with Tai Sui two years running. But tradition holds clash to be heavy and harm light, and the two years carry different reminders: last year leaned towards change, this year towards people and minor losses. Whether a year goes smoothly also depends on your personal chart and your actual circumstances; it is not something to decide on the zodiac sign alone.
Does the Rat have a lucky colour for 2027?
The lucky colours and good-luck charms that circulate are mostly based on each author’s own rules, which often contradict one another, and many are promoted by sellers. This page does not list them; if you want a good omen, simply wear colours you like.
Will Rat and Goat people have trouble getting along?
Folk tradition does speak of “the Rat and the Goat harming each other”, from the Zi–Wei harm. But this is a broad classification by birth-year branch; whether family members, partners and colleagues get along depends on personality, communication and what each puts in. If you really want to look at a relationship through Chinese metaphysics, you need to look at both people’s full charts together, not just their signs.
