Zhengguan is the element conquering the Day Master of opposite polarity — e.g. a 甲 (yang wood) day master is conquered by 辛 (yin metal) as Zhengguan. Compared to the harsher Qisha, Zhengguan represents lawful authority: government office, recognized titles, conventional career success, and the rule of fair structure.
A well-balanced Zhengguan in the chart suggests dignity, respect, and natural fit for management or government. In female charts it represents the lawful husband. Excessive Zhengguan can become rigid or oppressive; too weak suggests lack of discipline or difficulty earning institutional recognition.
