Ding (丁) — Yin Fire

Ding is yin fire — the candle in the study, the smelter's flame, the hearth at night. It does not shine across mountains the way Bing does; it warms and refines what is set near it. Ding Day Masters tend to be reserved, attentive, deeply intelligent, and quietly persistent. They prefer one-to-one influence and disciplined craft over public spectacle.

Ding's classical mate is 壬 in the combination 丁壬合化木 — fire and water, candle and rain, marrying to produce wood (creative growth). Ding fears strong wind (excess wood crowding the flame) and welcomes 甲 as steady fuel. A Ding chart with metal benefits hugely: the lamp refines the metal into useful tools.
