Chen (辰) — Dragon Branch / Yang Earth

Chen is yang earth holding three hidden stems: 戊 (yang earth), 乙 (yin wood), 癸 (yin water) — moist alluvial soil that retains the residue of departing winter water. Classically, Chen is the 水庫 (water storehouse). Symbolically the dragon ascending through cloud and rain. Chen Day Masters often display ambition, far-reaching vision, and an unusual capacity to hold complex things in reserve.

Chen san-he with 申 and 子 transforms to water (申子辰), and six-unites with 酉 to metal (辰酉合金). It is conflicted by 戌 (辰戌冲) — both being earth storehouses, the fight is for control of buried elements — and self-punished (辰辰自刑).
