Li (離 ☲) — The Clinging

One yin in the middle between two yang lines; the trigram of fire, brightness, clarity, and the middle daughter.
Li (☲) places one yin line between two yang lines, like fire whose form depends on what it burns. Per the Shuogua: fire, the sun, the middle daughter, the eye, the pheasant — qualities of clarity, illumination, and dependence on substrate.
In divination Li signals understanding, recognition, things coming to light, and beauty in form. Its lesson: clarity arises by clinging — fire needs fuel; insight needs a topic.
